Vancouver Island's Species - Top Prospects (Based on usefulness, distribution and availability of literature)

This will be an ongoing list of local species on Vancouver island. I will likely create a world map to express their global distribution. I am only focusing on these species, as this is still in the working stages. Check out http://www.ethnobotanical.info to view the main page

These are species with KNOWN or assumed significance. Animal species with potential or known significance are included. I have only included non-game animals for now, my aim being to research under-utilized species. More than 1500 unique plants, 1000+ fungi, and 1000+ fauna are omitted. This due only to lack of literature, lack of time, and possibly the difficulty to find and/or identify. Please e-mail me mailto: admin@ethnobotanical.info if you think I missed a notable species from Vancouver Island (wild or commonly cultivated) and I'll try to put a page together.

While all hazards should be taken into consideration, plants with the hazard label "Deadly" are especially dangerous and their toxins are not easily degraded or otherwise able to be rendered safe for human consumption. Small doses could be fatal, especially for children, elderly, and those with existing conditions. Please see individual species accounts for more detail.
